Online Self-Assessments Relating to Leadership

Out of the many self-assessments I have done online that relate to leadership, three of the most valuable ones were emotional intelligence, personality through the Big 5 Model, and the type of leader I am.

Emotional Intelligence

Regarding the emotional intelligence assessment, it consists of 4 categories: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Overall, I scored 69/75 which is considered to be a relatively high score. This assessment helped me get a thorough understanding of where I stand and what it means to have high emotional intelligence. I can use this in the workplace to understand implicit signs of when my team members might not be in the best emotional state to be productive. Furthermore, I can learn how to create a strong connection between me, as a leader, to my team members. (Take the assessment here)

Big 5 Model Personality

Next, my own personality test also plays a role in my development as a leader. According to the Big 5 Model, the spectrums of openness, extroversion, emotional stability, agreeableness, and conscientiousness are the most influential scales to our personality. Below is a chart of my results:

With high levels of emotional stability, I can understand the emotions of others and see things in an optimistic manner. My conscientiousness and imagination can go hand-in-hand to produce new ideas, push for creativity in the business world, and be diligent about my work. For extroversion versus introversion, I scored slightly towards the introversion but more or less am in the middle of both ends of the spectrum; I can use this to my advantage by being able to communicate with both, introverted and extroverted, members in my team. Finally, my somewhat agreeable personality can be used to see things from multiple perspectives while also selecting the option best for my teamโ€™s performance. (Take the assessment here)

Type of Leader

The third test is about my type of leadership: paternalistic, autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire. I scored to be a democratic leader due to my theme of ensuring everyone can express their ideas and concerns and allowing my team members to have a role in the decision making process. Because goals and objectives will be heavily discussed, I can use this aspect to set the team to be leading in the right direction. On top of this, our projects will be able to address all pertinent issues due to every team member sharing their thoughts from their perspective. (Take this assessment here)
